About Us

We believe that every church must decide what it will do with the Great Commission and how it will do it. The fact is, the Head of the Church, the Lord Jesus Christ, already has decided what we are to do:

“Go ye, therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world” (Mt. 28:18-19).

It is now up to WOLIC to determine how we should accomplish it.

Beliefs

We believe the Bible is complete and adequate to serve our beliefs and way of living. Here are some fundamentals we think to be vital for successful Christian living:

  1. The Bible is Inspired (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:21)
  2. There is one true God (Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22)
  3. The Lord Jesus Christ is fully God (Philippians 2:9-11; Hebrews 1:3)
  4. Humankind fell because of sin (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 5:12-19)
  5. God offers Salvation through His Son Jesus (Luke 24:47; John 3:3)
  6. Our church practices two Ordinances 1. Baptism in Water (Mt 28:19; Mark 16:16; Romans 6:4). 2. Holy Communion (1 Corinthians 11:26)
  7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit is for everyone (Luke 24:19; Acts 1:4,8)
  8. There is initial physical evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:4)
  9. Sanctification is a process that aligns us with God (Romans 12:1-2; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:16)
  10. God designed the Church for a purpose and Mission (Mt 28:19; Mark 16:15)
  11. God calls some to lead in Ministry (Ephesians 4:11,16; Gal 2:10; 6:10)
  12. God provides healing through the atonement (Isaiah 53:4-5; Matthew 8:16-17; James 5:14-16)
  13. Our Future is anchored in the Blessed Hope (Rom 8;23; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17)
  14. Christ will rule the earth for a millennium (Zechariah 14:5; Matthew 24:27, 30; Revelation 1:7; 19:11-14; 20:1-6)
  15. There will be a final judgement for all (Mt 25:46; Mk 9:43-48; Rev 19:20; 2011-15)
  16. Christians will enjoy the new heavens and new earth (2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21 through 22)

WOLIC’s Mission Statement

“To fulfill the Great Commission in the spirit of the Great Commandment.” –Mt 28:18-19; Luke 10:27

History

Word of Life Assembly of God Church was founded in July 1997 in Owings Mills, Maryland, by Rev. Scott Erickson. The church began as a growing congregation and soon became a multicultural community with members representing nations from across the globe, including Ghana, Jamaica, Australia, the Philippines, and Trinidad and Tobago. Reflecting this diversity, the church adopted the name Word of Life International Church to symbolize its multinational identity.

After Rev. Erickson’s departure in 2000, the church was led by several pastors, including Rev. John Hill, Rev. David Yannatone, the late Rev. Ron Wienke, Pastor Chris Sakai, and Rev. E. Don Cox. Each leader contributed to the church’s growth and mission, guiding it through different seasons of ministry. By 2013, the church had firmly established itself as a welcoming and impactful community of faith.

On March 31, 2013, Rev. Ivan Brooms became the Lead Pastor, continuing the church’s mission of showing God’s love and welcoming all to encounter Jesus. Under his leadership, Word of Life International Church remains dedicated to glorifying God, reaching the Greater Baltimore area with the good news, and creating a supportive environment for spiritual growth and service.
